MacBook Air 2022: Apple’s Plans Come on the Table

Apple should introduce new MacBook Pro models with an M1X processor. In all likelihood, a new MacBook Air will not be included – that will probably not come until 2022.

Apple has just published its product range for this year, and discussions are already taking place about 2022. The first rumors and leaks have been making the rounds for several months. While a lot is known about the iPhone 14, more information about the MacBook Air 2022 has so far been pending.

This week Apple presented the new MacBook Pro models with 14 “and 16” screens – and it is the second series with Apple’s own chips, which the company has completely redesigned. In winter 2020 Apple equipped the first Macs with the brand new M1 processor. While the interior was completely turned inside out, the design, most of the connections, and the integrated screen remained the same. It was only with the iMac 24 “introduced in spring 2021 that Apple presented a Mac that was specially designed for the M1.

As before with the iPhone, the notch should now also be used in the MacBook Air. It is expected to appear in the form of a circle at the top of the new mini LED display. This in turn should provide a clearer and more fluid presentation. It is not yet clear whether it will support ProMotion (120 Hz).

If you believe the information from leakers like Jon Prosser and Ming-Chi Kuo, the MacBook Air 2022 will appear in a variety of different colors. It seems plausible that Apple will orientate itself on the color scheme of the iPhone. The shape of the device should surprisingly be much flattered compared to the wedge cut of its predecessors.

The first device with an M2 chip

The M1 was able to show its greatest advantage especially in laptops: the excellent energy efficiency. Thanks to the M1, the MacBook Air surpassed most configurations of the Intel-based MacBook Pro 16 “- and still remained pleasantly cool with excellent battery life at the same time.

Apple is expected to introduce the M2 processor in the coming year – and the MacBook Air 2022 may be the first Model with the new chip. While the M1 Pro and M1 Max have hardly any changed processor cores, the M2 could use the core architecture of the Apple A16, which Apple will introduce with the next iPhone generation at the end of 2022. More cores are not to be expected. Apple probably also uses four performance cores and four efficiency cores as well as 8 GPU cores for the M2.

Release of the new Apple Notebook

The question remains about the release. Originally, reports promised performance in 2021. But we have to say goodbye to this idea sooner. Current planning is based on mid-2022 at the earliest, but maybe not until autumn.

In this respect, there is still enough time to save some money. Most likely, Apple will position the new MacBook Air as a “better” alternative to the current model. This should still be available to guarantee a cheap entry.
